Deep Tissue / Orthopedic / Therapeutic Massage
This type of massage focuses on trigger points secondary to scar tissue or chronic muscle imbalances. Our approach from a clinical stand point is to provide a systematic approach to correcting many of the postural and structural issues that typically are the cause of many of these myofascial manifestations. This type of massage, if it is deemed medically necessary, is often covered by your insurance and requires a prescription by our doctor or we accept outside referrals from area physicians. A prescription often is based on the diagnosis and complexity of your condition and may range from 15,30,45,or 60 minute sessions.

Swedish / Stress Reduction Massage
Swedish massage relaxes your mind while improving circulation of the entire body. Swedish massage uses a combination of strokes and pressure point work for overall balance and relaxation. Massages are offered in 30 minute, 60 minute and 90 minutes sessions.
Sports Massage
Sports Massage is a form of bodywork that uses Deep Tissue and Swedish massage techniques specifically adapted to deal with the effects of intense physical exertion on the body. This modality is used before, during and after many athletic events. It has been found to enhance athletic performance by keeping muscles at their peak of flexibility and strength, while warding off injury. Massage after great exertion reduces ones level of stiffness and muscle soreness. For some athletes a massage helps keep anxiety at a minimum before competition. The Sports massage therapist can use certain techniques to increase body stimulation previous to an event, which increases mental alertness. Regular sports massage sessions have been shown to improve an athlete's speed, strength, endurance and flexibility, as well as shorten recovery time between events.

Pre-natal / Pregnancy Massage
Massage during pregnancy not only makes a woman feel pampered, but offers undeniable physical benefits as well. Massage can relieve fatigue, help in relaxation, enhance sleep and calm an active baby. Massage is not recommended until after completing your first trimester. During the 2nd and 3rd trimester of the pregnancy, massage can stimulate blood flow, which may assist in the prevention of anemia. An increase in muscle tone and flexibility will occur, aiding in alleviating leg cramps and muscle spasms. While receiving pregnancy massage, you lay on your sides to give the therapist access to your back. Your body will be supported with a body pillow and your choice of one or two pillows will be placed under your head. You will be properly draped at all times while the therapist is working, except for the area being massaged.

Women with normal, low risk pregnancies can benefit greatly from massage therapy. However, women in high-risk pregnancies may experience the greatest benefits. Dr. Carlock has been working with many of the OBGYN physicians in the area for years and will prescribe massage therapy only following a thorough exam to rule out any contraindications for tretament. He will also keep your doctor informed of your progress and status while under our care.
